24.08.2012 – Photos Kaizers Orchestra (Periferifestivalen, Glesvær)

After the festivals in Kristiansand and Stavern, it took me about a week to realize that I had to squeeze in another Kaizers concert before the end of their festival season – hey, half a year without any concerts, until the premiere in the opera? No way! There was exactly one free weekend left in my calendar this summer … and therefore I ended up in the periphery, more precisely in Glesvær on Sotra, in the vicinity of Bergen.

Thus in the middle of nowhere. But the festival was great! You can read the full festival report on konzertjunkie.com in a couple of days. And the headliner of the first night: Kaizers Orchestra!

Compared to other festivals this summer, this festival was incredibly small. Only 2500 people were allowed on the festival grounds each day, and that meant that the stage was rather small as well, at least much smaller than usual for Kaizers. And I admit that I was a little skeptical in the beginning about how the band would approach the concert. Such a small concert might seem like an invitation to “take it easy” …

But those fears were totally unfounded. Right from the beginning, Kaizers were going full throttle, they had the audience tightly in their hands, and the atmosphere was amazing. And if the first thing Killmaster does after the end of the regular set is hugging the Jackal, smiling broadly: “Det var kjempebra!” – that says it all, I guess? =:-D

The setlist was somehow surprising for me – it didn’t really include any rarities, but in a way I had been expecting different, more “usual” songs. The surprise was so big that I actually liked Enden av november and thought that Apokalyps meg was absolutely okay. =;-) The only mean thing was the introduction to Tokyo Ice … Kaizers explained that usually, they always say no when someone asks for a wish song. Even if the one who asks has good reasons – “I’m so sick! Please play Den andre er meg for me on Saturday!” But this time, they made an exception, because the wish came from their sick manager. And that’s why the next song was – Tokyo Ice til Clementine. Which is a great song, but then, Den andre er meg would have been even greater! (And it would have been possible as well …)

Kaizers had a lot of time for their gig, about one hour and 45 minutes. So they had decided to play what they wanted to play and not what the organizer had asked them to play. In the end, the time was running out after all … They had to start Hjerteknuser right after Drøm videre Violeta, with a jump off the barrel, without the – French or Russian – opening this time. Because the police was on their backs already, making sure that they didn’t play too long! “When you turn around on stage, you see your friends in the band, and behind them you see the crew, and behind them you see the police!” However, it turned out that the police man was a Kaizers fan and didn’t mind them playing another song. He was even allowed to choose a song. =;-)

For the little details, there was of course the announcement before Din kjole lukter bensin mor, that they need a female guest singer with the right dialect. Hellraizer: “Jennifer Lopez?” In the middle of the concert, the Jackal suddenly announced that they would now play an entirely new song. Which turned out to be … Kontroll på kontinentet. “You don’t know that one, right?” And it was awesome to hear the full version of that song again, including the band introduction! =:-) During the guitar solo, we got to see a little wine tasting as well: The Jackal wanted to jump up on the barrel, but his wine glass was sitting on top. So he grabbed it and got up on the barrel with the glass. When Hellraizer wanted to set it aside, he first started out by smelling the wine and tasting it. And apparently, he liked it. *g*

Both the Jackal and Killmaster did some surprise dance parts during the show; and some time during the show, when there was a short break, the Jackal asked jokingly confused: “What? Are you waiting for me? Is it my turn? I though it was your turn!”

All in all, it was another great concert. Huge fun to see them again! The concert was highly entertaining, the audience was excited, the band was in a great mood – amazing! I was pretty much in the front, so it’s hard for me to judge the atmosphere in the back. However, judging from the band’s reaction, there’s no way it could have been bad. *g* And the next day, everyone had very positive words about the concert. Yay!

The full setlist: I ett med verden, Tusen dråper regn, Femtakt filosofi, Støv og sand, Ompa til du dør, Din kjole lukter bensin mor, En for orgelet en for meg, Diamant til kull, Apokalyps meg, Enden av november, Kontroll på kontinentet, Tokyo Ice til Clementine, Philemon Arther & the dung, Svarte katter & flosshatter, KGB, Drøm videre Violeta, Hjerteknuser. Encore Maestro.

And so that was it with Kaizers in concert, until next year … but at least it’s not that long anymore until we get some new stuff “on tape”. Better than nothing!

14.07.2012 – Photos Kaizers Orchestra (Stavernfestivalen, Stavern)

If you first go to Norway to see Kaizers Orchestra, you have to catch more than only one concert – so after Odderøya Live, I went to see them again at Stavernfestivalen! Actually, I had planned to attend that festival a couple of years ago already when Kaizers last played there, but in the end, that didn’t work out. This time, it did!

I was at the festival pretty early already, around 2 p.m. – much too early, as it turned out. Especially compared to Odderøya Live, the festival wasn’t as well organized; you can read more about the whole festival in my festival report. But in the end, after a lot of ups and downs and maybes and frustration and you name it, there was actually time for a small, very exclusive special little thing… check back soon for more about this! =:-)

Just after 11 p.m., Kaizers Orchestra came on stage. This time, I skipped taking pictures in front of the stage – the stage was so incredibly high up that it was almost impossible to see anything from the aisle anyway (just like from the front row), let alone take pictures. And in addition, the photographers had to leave the aisle after two (again *g*) songs on the side where it was obvious that it would be terribly crowded and pushy throughout the concert. So I chose the other side, which was less crowded and more relaxed, and decided to take my pictures from the front row instead. =;-) So if the pictures turned out any good, you’ll get some different, rather unusual pictures in the next couple of days. *g*

The concert itself was a typical festival show – there’s not that much more to say about it. Personally, I liked the show in Kristiansand a bit better, but that might have been up to my general attitude that day. Objectively, there was hardly a difference between the two concerts. There were a few small changes in the setlist: They played Knekker deg til sist this time, but no Tokyo Ice (well… okay, fine with me), and Apokalyps meg was replaced by Evig pint (yayayay!! *gg*).

The talking inbetween the songs was almost identical to what they were saying at Odderøya Live – this time, they had asked Bjørn Eidvsåg to sing along with the Jackal in Din kjole lukter bensin mor, but he had said no, so Hellraizer had to take over again. As always, the Russian opening for Hjerteknuser won the vote – so it seems there’s not that much difference between Eastern Norway and Western Norway (where Kaizers had played the night before) after all. We also got the introduction at the end again, where everyone was dragged to the front separately (and the Jackal took care that Helge looked good before he dragged him to the front). And the Jackal still doesn’t know the lyrics of Prosessen – while in Kristiansand, the “andre applauderer” part was much too late in the song somehow, we actually got it twice this time.

What was very funny was when during Bøn fra helvete, Hellraizer accidentally dropped his oil barrel stick down in the aisle in front of the stage – which they tried to cover up first, with an oscar-worthy performance by Hellraizer and the Jackal. Where’s the stick?! Usually it falls down after you throw it up in the air, must have been really high this time?! After the crew remained unsuccessful trying to convince the securities in the aisle to give the stick back, the Jackal started fishing for it with his microphone… took a bit as well, but in the end they managed to get their stick back just in time for the next barrel part. *g*

During Svarte katter, Omen started polishing his megaphone this time, while the whole band was screaming at him to SIT DOWN NOW. And, as tradition has it, the one in the band with the longest beard is allowed to choose the last song of the encores. For a long time, this used to be Hellraizer, but now he was passed by… uh… what was the name of the guy on the organ again? =;-)

The guy on the organ started playing Maestro, and as final conclusion, we got Die Polizei. Again with impressive singing by the audience, even long after the band had gone off.

A great conclusion to the festival, no doubt about it! And now it’ll take WAY too long until my next Kaizers concert… =:-/

12.07.2012 Kaizers Orchestra (Odderøya Live, Kristiansand)

12.07.2012 – Photos Kaizers Orchestra (Odderøya Live, Kristiansand)

It’s been almost three months already since my last Kaizers concert – a good reason to ignore all thoughts saying that “Kaizers festival concerts suck anyway” and to get on the way to Norway once again! ‘Cause no matter what, Kaizers festival concert are definitely better than no Kaizers concerts at all…

The first stop was Kristiansand, and Odderøya Live festival. With a very diverse, but interesting line up – you can read my full report about the festival here. Kaizers were playing on the second day of the festival; as headliner of course! I noticed again how strange it is for us Europeans that it’s still light outside when the headliner enters the stage… which, however, is great for taking photos. *g*

Since I was there as press, I spent the first songs in the aisle taking pictures. And you could see right from the start that this would be a great concert – the kids in the front were more than enthusiastic, screaming their lungs out, and of course they were equipped with shirts and gas masks and you name it. As always, the securities didn’t understand the short break in I ett med verden and shoved us out of the aisle during the third song already – but well, Kaizers concerts are more fun in the audience anyway than when you’re busy with the camera all the time. =;-)

Next up were Din kjole lukter bensin, mor and En for orgelet – the first one with an extra special duet partner who harmonizes with the Jackal’s “very difficult voice” – yes, of course Hellraizer. =;-) They screwed up the ending of En for orgelet, the part with the concert drum – but hey, there’s hardly a band that can screw up so charmingly as Kaizers… *g*

Suddenly, the Jackal found a shoe heel on stage, so they had to check who lost that one. But it must have been someone in Bernhoft’s band, ’cause everbody’s shoes were still intact. =;-)

Then it was time for a song that they wrote when they didn’t know how to play any instruments yet… “Well, not that we knew it now – Hellraizer can’t even read music! I can…” To Hellraizer: “Naah, okay, I can’t either… but this is what it sounds like if you write a song without knowing anything!” The song was Bøn fra helvete – and in the middle of the song, Omen was almost hit by Hellraizer’s barrel stick, but luckily Hellraizer managed to catch it in mid-air at the last second.

In Prosessen, people were not “only” from all over the country this time, but from all over Kristiansand. =;-) And without exaggeration: Kaizers had a firm grip on Kristiansand! The atmosphere was great, especially during the big hits. During Hjerteknuser, for example, everyone was waving their hands, right to the very back of the area – a beautiful view!

And as always, the Russian opening with the Kaizer vodka was chosen for Hjerteknuser… Only 150 people voted for the French opening, compared to 6000 for the Russian. The Jackal knew how to estimate that exactly, because he worked for the police before and learned to estimate the size of crowds on the square in Stavanger… Gosh, I’m so happy I understand Norwegian by now – I must have missed out on so much before!?! *rofl*

After Tokyo Ice – a nice surprise for me, even though this song was played at quite a few festivals before – they announced that after one of the brightest Kaizer songs they would now play the darkest. Hmm… Evig pint? De involverte? No… Apokalyps meg. *grr* No, I don’t like that song. Anyway, it was impressive, I gotta admit… they manage to bring it across with so much energy that it is just amazing to see.

During Svarte katter, Helge was THE ONE again, as always. He seemed so incredibly angry during his solo part; almost frightening! =;-) But the Jackal wasn’t impressed; he just told him over and over again “Now sit down!” And after the song, he explained: “Helge doesn’t say much, but if he does, he says it LOUD.” *gg*

At the end, everyone was dragged to the front to get some extra applause. And the Jackal dusted Helge off thoroughly before dragging him to the front… =;-)

Then, after the encore, the concert was over – or at least everyone thought so and left. It got really empty in the front, even though the lights and music didn’t come on yet. Fortunately, Kaizers didn’t mind, and so we still got Die Polizei. And everyone was singing along in the end (okay, the timing was terribly off, but still)… amazing!

A terrific concert, and I just love love love this band, damn!

21.04.2012 Kaizers Orchestra (Miniuka, Ås)

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

I wouldn’t really consider Ås the best concert town – I’ve seen two Skambankt concerts there, and while the concerts themselves were really great, the events there tend to be a bit confusing, and the audience is a terribly wild and pretty drunk student audience. But this time, the Kaizers concert in Ås fit so perfectly into my trip to Norway that I just HAD to go there! And actually, this concert confirmed what I expected: The concert itself was just amazing, the audience was really loud and enthusiastic, but then it also was a rather aggressive crowd and a lot of pushing in front of the stage, which is always quite annoying.

OK, maybe I should add that I ended up in the first row once again – but hey, what are you gonna do if you get into the concert hall and there is still free space in the front? *g* And it was a really nice place there with good view; just, as mentioned, with a lot of pushing – and especially unnecessary pushing – as well. (The girl that pushed her way into the front row beside me, for example, just kept on pushing throughout the whole concert. Even when she had more than enough place to stand comfortably. No idea where she wanted to go?! And when I decided after (!!) the concert that I was sick of pushing back just to keep my spot and unexpectedly took a step back – yes, I know, I’m mean =;-) – she almost fell over…)

But let’s talk about the concert! The setlist wasn’t perfect, in my opinion – it was okay, but for me there were too many of my “not necessarily favorites” in there. But well, the atmosphere made up for that! You can judge the atmosphere a bit by when and how ofter Kaizers go up on the barrels – and basically they were up there right from the beginning and again and again. Awesome!

Before they played “Din kjole lukter bensin, mor”, the Jackal announced the first duet of the night. Killmaster came up to him, smiling with joy – which suddenly changed when he noticed that the Jackal was not talking about him. =;-)

Omen knew how to keep busy throughout the concert again: If I saw it correctly (Hellraizer was standing in the way all the time *gg*), he had a flower in his suitcase this time – which he had to put into a glass of water, of course! Later, during Svarte katter, there was actually nothing unusual happening; Omen just dried off his sweat. But the break afterwards was dragged out and out and out for VERY long this time! Might have been due to all the “Helge!” choirs as well…

So the fans were REALLY loud, also before Kaizers played Hjerteknuser. But still, it didn’t help that we were quite a few people asking for the French opening; the Jackal decided: 50 people want the French opening, and the rest wants the Russian opening. So we got the vodka again – but this time out of a water glass! And Hellraizer filled it up pretty good… he didn’t want to drink it though. =;-) Even though the Jackal asked him a couple of times, Hellraizer just sipped on it. Killmaster helped a bit to empty it, but the rest was for the Jackal. Who really managed to finish it in one drag! Right before he climbed the barrel to get the fans to cheer even more and lifted up his shirt to achieve that. Seems like the link between the alcohol intake and the head was pretty short here. *gg*

Those who haven’t heard Diamant til kull before have obviously been living abroad the last two years – well, I’ve done that for way more than two years, but I did know the song! *g*

The Jackal explained that in case we have some constructive criticism or feedback or new ideas, we should send them in by mail or via facebook. But only constructive criticism, no deeper criticism! Everything else we should just keep for ourselves…. And after Kaizers played 170, Kvite russer (placed in the middle of the set this time, rather unusual!), and Philemon Arthur, the Jackal analyzed us in the audience: “Up here in the front we already got some constructive criticism. They want us to play some up-tempo songs now!” Which they managed perfectly with Psycho under min hatt.

And finally, an awesome play on words by the Jackal during Prosessen: “Andre applauderer, og det er sånne som oss. Sånne som Ås!” =:-D

The full setlist: I ett med verden, Tusen dråper regn, Knekker deg til sist, Delikatessen, 9mm, Blitzregn baby, Støv og sand, Din kjole lukter bensin mor, En for orgelet en for meg, Diamant til kull, Prosessen, 170, Min kvite russer, Philemon Arthur & The Dung, Psycho under min hatt, Svarte katter & flosshatter, Hjerteknuser. First encore KGB, Drøm videre Violeta, and Resistansen, second encore Sju bøtter tårer er nok Beatrice.

And the conclusion: I love this band!!!
And I really have to take a very close look at the festival plan and get that to fit into my plans for the summer…

12.03.2012 Kaizers Orchestra (Centraltheater, Leipzig)

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Well, and way too soon the tour is over for me already. =:-( However, that means I’m at my usual computer again, I got a (more or less *grmbl*) reliable internet connection, and therefore I can write a “normal” report again. =;-)

I had heard some rumors before the concert that said: Centraltheater in Leipzig has seats. The concert junkie assessment, however, said: Well, they’ll surely have another hall without seats, or they’ll take them out or whatever, they can’t have Kaizers play in front of a seated audience.

At least that’s would you would think:

(Sorry for the bad quality – I didn’t take my camera, so my mobile was all I had to take pictures.)

Until the bell rang before the show started at eight o’clock (I’m NOT kidding, there really was a bell!), I’d been going back and forth between hysterical giggling and a worried “oh shit”. The whole situation was just so absolutely absurd – we were sitting in our chairs, waiting for the show to start. Or maybe for popcorn and the supporting movie? And after the amazing concert in Düsseldorf, I just couldn’t imagine how this could work in any way. Kaizers in front of a seated audience? How should they motivate themselves, and then deliver a show on stage that would sweep the audience away? And in addition, this was also the very first concert in Leipzig, and a first concert in a new town is always very difficult anyway. I sensed that this wouldn’t end well… =:-/

But then, I was sitting in the second row, pretty much in the middle, so that was cool. Hardly ever happens to me at concerts. Especially since I like to keep out of the worst crowds. *g*

So I quickly typed the first two songs of the set list into my phone, because they are always the same anyway, and then the lights went out and Kaizers entered the stage, without the Russian Dance or anything.

And started with Philemon Arthur & The Dung. Uh, what? What the hell? Was I in the wrong place, or at the wrong stage? *g* Anyway. Around me, everyone was grinning a bit embarrassed (me included), a slightly tense orchestra on stage played their first chords, and in the back of my mind, the awkward thought: “We can’t be sitting here, that’s impossible, that cannot work, we have to get up …” And right then, one guy at the side just couldn’t stand it any longer and jumped up, we joined in, relieved, and before the end of the first verse, the whole audience was standing in the aisles … Puuuh! The first row moved up to the edge of the stage, other people came and stood behind them, and we were in the second row of seats with no one crowding in and plenty of room for dancing, and the atmosphere was great – considering the circumstances and the fact that it was a first concert.

Of course, it took a few songs for the band to warm up and for the audience to understand what was happening on stage, but in the end, I left the concert with a gigantic smile and I was totally thrilled.

At least for me, that was not only due to the great concert, but even more because I realized that this amazing concert had been played by the same band that got the wild punk rock / gypsy crowd to dance and clap and go crazy the day before in Düsseldorf. So these were two absolutely fantastic concerts in a row – and they couldn’t have been more different! And if a band is able to deliver two such different concerts in the middle of a tour, despite all the stress, and manage to do so perfectly, then I can just take my imaginary hat off … terrific. Absolutely terrific!

The set list was completely modified and adapted to the situation – there was not one single gypsy song on it, but instead lots of ballads and of course a lot of “visual” songs, where a lot was happening on stage. I actually got På ditt skift, which I had desperately been waiting for – YEAH! -, followed by Fra sjåfør til passasjer. They played De involverte again, a couple of Hellraizer songs, and Bris … hach! Probably I should shut up now, so I don’t make everyone who didn’t get to see this concert too jealous, but then … pff, your own fault, your really missed out on something! =;-p

However, I have to say that I have no idea how “Kaizers newbies” perceived the show. Because this concert had NOTHING to do with the image of Kaizers that you probably have if you heard a couple of gypsy songs before, or saw Kaizers at a festival. But the “usual” kind of concert surely wouldn’t have worked in the theater … this way, it DID work. Kaizers couldn’t play the gypsy and party card this time, but instead they shone with their music and the visual expression. And they definitely managed to convince me that this is Kaizers Orchestra as well!

There was hardly any audience interaction this time; I suspect that the band hadn’t expected the audience to be so enthusiastic. And to try and convince a seated audience to sing along would have been a bit out of place – therefore, I could fully understand this and didn’t miss it at all. However, I could understand it if someone who has only seen Kaizers a few times and expected a “normal” Kaizers concert was a bit disappointed.

There’s not much details to report, because Kaizers played through their songs quite tightly. The Jackal admitted that it might be difficult to dance in the seat rows, but we should just try our best. Before they played De involverte, they talked about Johnny Cash; because they had dedicated this song to him the day he had died. The Jackal said Kaizers had been playing in Groningen that day. At that moment I realized that it doesn’t even help to stand RIGHT in front of the Jackal and shake your head and protest vehemently … *lol* They played in Munich that day, not in Groningen. That was my second Kaizers concert, and on the way to Munich we heard about Johnny Cash’s death on the radio. Pff, Groningen … =;-) But they did play De involverte in Munich, that part was true. (Oh, and they also played Salt & Pepper, just looked it up on the set list – so I did get to hear that at least ONCE. And still I want to hear it again, grr!)

I ett med verden was incredibly impressive. They played it after Din kjole lukter bensin mor this time. The song is nice as opener – but at that position in the middle of the set, the audience took off completely. Wow! I mean, WOW! The band seemed to be overwhelmed by the response as well – and surprised. The beginning just rocked, and the quiet part was phenomenal with the fantastic lighting … awesome.

Then we even got Bris. Before they played that one, the Jackal told the story from the book, about the girl in Paris – but he asked us to please not cry afterwards. =;-) During Svarte katter, Helge cleaned his gas mask, and the part where he bewitches his lamp and Thunders conducts the Jackal’s singing looked even more impressive than usual on the theater stage.

Hach … a “slightly” enthusiastic report. =;-) Overall, the concert wasn’t the “concert of concerts” – as mentioned, I wouldn’t be surprised if some people didn’t like the concert at all. But it was just so different and so unexpected that it totally blew me away.

Here’s the complete set list:

  1. Philemon Arthur & The Dung
  2. Enden av november
  3. Femtakt filosofi

After the concert, we went for a drink at Vodkaria (no kidding, the place was really called Vodkaria!), and celebrated the conclusion of the tour… And it was just amazing! Fantastic. Guess I should stack a supply of chocolate now for the inevitable tour hole. I’m pretty sure I won’t get to see a certain orchestra again until at least the end of April…

02.03.2012 Kaizers Orchestra (Sentrum Scene, Oslo)

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012
02.03.2012 – Photos Kaizers Orchestra (Sentrum Scene, Oslo)

The third and last day with a Kaizers concert in Oslo, and this time, the report will be a bit shorter. Which doesn’t mean that the concert was bad, not at all! It was just a bit different from the other two concerts. Kaizers put more focus on the songs, didn’t talk that much (hardly at all, actually) between the songs, and the setlist was a bit more “traditional” as well.

The special thing about this concert was that there was no age limit on the gallery. This means that the gallery was full of kids who were experiencing their very first Kaizers concert – and that was really great! The atmosphere on the gallery was much better than the other days. I was down in front of the stage, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the atmosphere up on the gallery was (even) better than down in front this time! In any case, the Jackal didn’t have to ask them even once to get up, and of course they were joining in and singing along all the time. Cool!

Apart from that, there’s not a lot report. The setlist didn’t hold that many surprises (but the suprises that were there were even better – Bris and Evig pint, yay!). As always, the Russian introduction won the vote before Hjerteknuser (even though Kaizers had planned so many great specials for the French introduction, like the rockets…), but this time, not only the Jackal got a shot of Vodka, but he also gave one to Killmaster and one to Thunder and one to the audience (which the security obviously didn’t like to see at all, uhem). As always, they dragged out the break in Svarte katter (while Omen was combing his beard and found out that he didn’t have hair to comb), and there was another very long break in 170.

The conclusion of the concert was a bit strange – not because of the band, but because of the audience. Omen and the Jackal came out again to play Kvite russer. But the audience wanted to hear Die Polizei instead – and so they didn’t really sing along loudly, and started to shout for Die Polizei in the middle (!) of Kvite russer. Which – of course! – the Jackal didn’t like too much. At least they finished the song before disappearing. I could have understood it as well if they had just left… =:-/

But still: a great conclusion for three amazing concerts in Oslo!

Here’s the full setlist: I ett med verden, Tusen dråper regn, Knekker deg til sist, 9mm, Støv og sand, Ompa til du dør, Prosessen, Diamant til kull, Din kjole lukter bensin mor, En for orgelet en for meg, Kontroll på kontinentet, Bris, Evig pint, Bøn fra helvete, Philemon Arthur & the Dung, Resistansen, Svarte katter & flosshatter, Hjerteknuser, Maestro. This time there will also be photos of the concert, but it’ll take a few days, I guess…

01.03.2012 Kaizers Orchestra (Sentrum Scene, Oslo)

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Seems I got through my birthday rather well! At least I was asked for my ID at the door this time… For a concert with an 18-year age limit. On my 33rd birthday… Well, I’ll just take that as a compliment!

This time, we were there just after the doors opened and managed to find a nice place in the front on the left side. The support Jenny Moe was… well, not that spectacular, I gotta say. But then, we only saw the back of her piano, actually.

And then the concert started! Unselfish as I am, I had sent in my birthday wish setlist beforehand, and it almost looked like Kaizers would actually play it – but “only” for the first couple of songs and a few other highlights, the remaining songs were different in the end. But the setlist was great! Except that I really really missed På ditt skift… =:-( Pretty pretty please, play that tonight, yes?!

The setlist: I ett med verden, Tusen dråper regn, Djevelens orkester, Señor Torpedo, Femtakt filosofie, Di grind, Støv og sand, Delikatessen, Psycho under min hatt, Philemon Arthur & the Dung, Gresk komedie, Bøn fra helvete, Apokalyps meg, Den andre er meg, Din kjole lukter bensin mor, En for orgelet, Diamant til kull, Svarte katter & flosshatter, Hjerteknuser. First encore Medisin & psykiatri, Drøm videre Violeta, Dieter Meyers Inst. Second encore Prosessen.

The atmosphere was great – not quite as enthusiastic as the first night, but then we were standing in front of the stage this time. And to save some time, here are the details as plain list instead of long text:

  • During Delikatessen, Omen was very busy passing time again. With his suitcase (which obviously contains lots of interesting things that need to be checked out) and with his gas mask (you can screw off the filter and stow it in the suitcase!).
  • The beginning of Psycho under min hatt was quite bad, because Omen started playing when poor Hellraizer wasn’t ready yet! That’s what happens when the organ player has never seen a guitar before and doesn’t know that it needs to be tuned once in a while. Actually, they wanted to fire Omen on the spot – but the audience voted for giving him another chance. And maybe a third, they might need it, the Jackal added.
  • Hellraizer took over the microphone a bit later. They didn’t want to do a duet, because – who of them should sing the girl’s part? This just leads to arguments. And also, they both have the same length of… ties!
  • They did do a duet lateron after all. But it almost didn’t happen, because the Jackal dropped the microphone just before they could start! Hellraizer wanted to pick it up, but then they remembered that this is the reason they take a crew along on tour. And the crew managed to fix the problem professionally. =;-)
  • Bøn fra helvete is a song from the times when Kaizers didn’t know how to play any instruments yet. Except for oil barrels, of course!
  • At some time during the concert, the Jackal decided that we were just too nice to them. He wanted some opposition. And booos! “Don’t just cheer everything!” … And right after, they played Apokalyps meg. They should have announced that before, THEN I would have booed as well. =;-)
  • Helge = THE man. All said. And this time, the Helge chants were actually audible, yeah! =:-)
  • Of course, we got the Russian introduction again for Hjerteknuser. Even though we were screaming and begging for the French one! And even though we would have seen someone open a bottle of champagne with a sword instead! But well, so we got the vodka again, and poor Helge had to wipe the glass afterwards.
  • Kaizers Orchestra played Drøm videre Violeta because their management had advised them to do so. And the manager is always right! He had also advised them that Hellraizer should get a red guitar, and Killmaster a new deodorant…
  • And last but not least, it was time to celebrate! Kaizers had just received a Platinum award for Vol. II. Congrats!

And for the rest of the report, I hand over to my friends, since I might be a tiny bit biased… =;-)

After a fantastic pre-show dinner with birthday cake and ice cream to celebrate Susi’s birthday, and after the fantastic concert, the evening climaxed when the Jackal entered the stage for the final encore holding two champagne glasses and a champagne bottle. This was, of course, to celebrate two things. First, Violeta Violeta vol. II has sold to platinum in Norway. Secondly, it’s someone special’s birthday! This very special fan, who turned 33 this evening, and has come all the way from Germany! And of course, this special fan had to come up on stage and answer a few questions. The 1700 fans in the audience cheered wildly as Susi was lifted up on stage! And the Jackal thought this would be a perfect time for a small interview…

– How did you become a fan? “Well, I saw a concert, and I just fell in love…”

(more wild cheers from the audience)

-WOW, you speak Norwegian fluently!!! Why is that? “To understand the lyrics, of course!”

– How many concerts have you seen? “I’m not sure, about 130-something…”

– 130 concerts!!! Now THAT’S a FAN!!!

(and the crowd goes wild…)

So, this is why he had TWO glasses – one for Kaizers Orchestra, and one for Susi, the number one fan! Hellraizer opened the champagne bottle, filled the glasses (and of course had to spray some champagne on the front rows) and the last song of the evening was of course dedicated to Susi! She sat on stage through Prosessen, and disappeared off stage with the band afterwards… We can’t write about everything that happened after that – but we CAN say that it was a great birthday party!!!

(Let’s do it again next year!)

And now that we’ve finished off this last part of the report in English, it’s time to translate it to German… Except, at this point there’s only one person left writing, and I really don’t know German… So bear with me – but I’ll have to ask Google translate for help. So if the German version is completely unintelligible, please try to read the English one instead… *gg*

And one last thing, that can’t be repeated enough:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSI!!!!!
