17.07.2014 – Photos Skambankt (Bukta, Tromsø)

Somehow, I always end up in the very north when I’m planning where to see Skambankt next. Okay, this time it’s not sooo surprising, because a) I had Bukta festival on my festival wish list for years and b) I’m about to live in Trondheim, from where it’s just a short “hop” a few hundred kilometers further north. But this is actually the third time I got to see Skambankt in Tromsø … yes, I know I’m crazy, no need to tell me. =;-)

Anyway, Tromsø it was, and up to now, Bukta festival lived up to all expectations – you can read all about it here if you want. Skambankt were the second/third band of the festival (depending on if you count only the main stage or also the second stage), but that didn’t matter. Opeth had already warmed up the crowd!

As always, Skambankt started with Anonyme hatere, which worked so-so. It’s a good song, and also a good song to start with, but nobody knows it … But – as always – they followed up with Skambankt and O dessverre, which definitely broke the ice. I was busy taking pictures during the first three songs, but I can say for sure that the people in the front were into it right away and that the “Skambankt” shouts were quite impressive!

However, it seemed that the clapping in Slukk meg for eg brenner wasn’t that convincing. Even though it’s so easy – “come on, we all learned that in kindergarten!!”.

Ted announced that while they are playing lots of festivals this summer, Bukta is actually one of those they really looked forward to. Because up here in the North, Børge is actually the world’s best drummer! Just like Hans is the world’s best guitar player in Klepp and Tollak the world’s best bass player in Ålgård. =;-)

Next up was something like a “blues boogie” – Sirene. Uh … okay. *g* And in the following song Me sa nei, we got the first wall of death of the night. Somehow I have the feeling that it will probably be the ONLY wall of death of the festival, but we will see! It definitely got the crowd going. While everyone had been standing and listening before, people were now moving, and there actually was something like a mosh pit in the middle.

As during the last shows, Ted tried to enforce some audience interaction during Dynasti. I love that, but … could he maybe – just once! – actually EXPLAIN what he wants? =;-) If somebody screams “Hey” at me in the middle of a song and that “hey” is actually part of the verse, I try to continue singing the verse. Or I shut up if I don’t know the lyrics. If I’m supposed to shout back “Hey”, I might do so, but on the beat. So shouting back “Hey” right away is only the third possibe option. =;-p We could save sooo much time there if he would just explain what he wants the audience to do! And Skambankt could actually use that time to play BOTH the fast (Min Eliksir) and the mid-tempo song (Malin) – but no, like that we got only Eliksir, pff. Not that I would actually care more for Malin than Eliksir … it’s like the devil and the deep blue sea, I guess. Or no, actually more like for example potatoes and pasta – both okay, but there’s also chocolate! Or … maybe I shouldn’t write concert reports in the middle of the night. *oops*

Back on track … We still got “the favorite song of Ålgård’s best bass player” – Sort Blod, then Mantra and Stormkast #1 as final song, which worked perfectly well as always.

Here’s the full setlist:

  • Anonyme hatere
  • Skambankt
  • O dessverre
  • Slukk meg for eg brenner
  • Vår bør
  • Som en sirene
  • Me sa nei
  • Dynasti
  • Min eliksir
  • Tanker som mareritt
  • Voodoo
  • Sort blod
  • Mantra
  • Stormkast #1

Not sure how many in the audience actually knew Skambankt and were expecting a concert like the one they were getting – but by the end of the show, Skambankt had convinced everyone, and everyone was into the concert. Yay! That’s always awesome to see, especially since festival shows can easily turn out rather boring. But no, this one was amazing, and I’m really looking forward to PStereo now!

I’ll add photos in a couple of days (or maybe weeks …) – I’m quite busy moving at the moment, so I’m not sure when I can get to it, but there will be some nice shots I think so it’s worth the wait! =:-)

02.12.2010 – Photos Skambankt (Driv, Tromsø)

Three years ago, I went up to Northern Norway for three Skambankt concerts, got to meet some great people up there and had a fantastic time. In the meantime, we became good friends and met up at Skambankt and Kaizers concerts all over Norway. And now Skambankt returned to Northern Norway for a couple of concerts, and it was time for another trip up north!

I made it out of Germany just before the big winter chaos started (and went from -4 °C in Germany via -16 °C in Oslo to 2 °C north of the artic circle?!). First stop: Tromsø! After a quiet and relaxing (and dark…) day, it was time for the first concert of the “mini tour”.

Skambankt played at Driv, which is much bigger than Blå Rock where I saw them last time. It probably wasn’t sold out – but it looked full anyway! The atmosphere was great, with lots of excited people in front of the stage. We decided to stand up on the gallery – great view, lots of space to dance, and a lot of fun! =:-D

After the intro, Skambankt started with Mantra, followed by Skambankt and Slukk meg for eg brenner. And yep, they traveled a long way for this concert, all the way from Vestlandet – and right, I traveled even further. =;-) Next up was Amnesti (I still have to laugh at the ahahah choirs… uhem *g*) and Dynasti. The atmosphere under the following Vår Bør was amazing – everyone was singing along loudly, and we got to take over the singing completely for some lines.

The next song was Terje’s favorite from Hardt Regn, namely Løgnprofitør. After that one, he pointed out that this was the last time for probably two years Skambankt would be playing in Tromsø… ARGH! I mean, we all know they’ll (have to) take a break, but don’t say it this bluntly… =:-( Anyway. The next song was about a girl they met in Tromsø in 2006: Malin!

Then Terje announced they would go from a good pop song to some good old punkrock now, and play a song everybody had surely heard before: Me sa nei! Someone in the audience claimed to not have heard it – but well, then it would be the first time now! In the middle, we had to count down from 23 before they continued.

Next up was Kaos, så inferno, followed by O dessverre (great response, as always!) and Tyster, with the audience singing the chorus at the end. The last song before the encore was Stormkast #1 then.

I had kinda missed the “rare” songs under the concert – no Fritt fall? But well, there were still the encores! And they actually started with “Bak låste dører”! YAY! Not sure if I have even heard that one live before. If I have, it was loooong ago. But it was great to get to hear it live! =:-)

The last song was Min eliksir, which I still don’t really like… but yep, I gotta admit, it does work live and was a great conclusion.

So that was a great start for the tour! Way too short (come on, 60 minutes?!?), but great atmosphere, great energy, great audience. One down, two to go – can’t wait! =:-)

19.08.2009 Skambankt (Driv, Tromsø)

Report by Lena V.:

It was just hours since the last (mini-)concert, and already time for me to go to Driv. I arrived about 45 minutes after the doors opened, and it seemed the concert had already begun. As it turned out, an unannounced support band was playing – they were really great, and I decided on the spot that I will definitely see them again in the near future. Because there were going to be two support acts, the first band started as early as 21:30, just half an hour after the doors opened… They were called The Great Big Taters, and this was their second concert in Tromsø this year. Had it been up to me, they could have been both support acts, that’s how great they were live… *g* I had found myself a spot a couple of meters back from the stage, but when The Great Big Taters left the stage, there was suddenly a lot of space free in front, right in the middle… For some reason I don’t really understand, I felt myself drawn to the empty space… And I HAD actually planned to enjoy this concert from inside the crowd… :pJackie Moonshine, the second support band, was as I had foreseen better indoor in the evening than they were earlier in the day at the university campus. They seemed to really enjoy playing for such a big audience, and savoured the applause and cheering from the crowd. And when they were asked to do an encore, they literally shone with delight… But they had used up their stage time, and had to pack up their gear. ... read on!

19.08.2009 Skambankt (Campus, Tromsø)

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I was at work, just another ordinary Monday, when I suddenly got an e-mail saying “Did you know about this?”. There was a link enclosed, to the home page of Studenthuset Driv – the local student cafè/bar/concert venue. Oh – that’s nice, Skambankt will be playing in Tromsø this autumn… When? … In 2 (TWO!) days! WOW! That’s what I call a flying start of the week!
I headed straight down to Driv after work to get hold of a ticket… ... read on!

29.8.2008 Kaizers Orchestra (Døgnvill, Tromsø)

Friday, August 29th, 2008

You can say what you want, concerts and festivals are best when you can sleep in your own bed when the action’s over. The weather was cold, as it has been all summer in Tromsø, but at least there was no rain in sight. Kaizers were scheduled to play at a quarter to nine, and only for an hour. Way too little time for them in my opinion… But there was time enough for me to mingle and meet friends before the show.

Hmm… what can I write about a Cloroform concert? I mean, except that it was really weird, but really really great anyway, of course… =;-)
